preparing-for-the-sports-season

As the football season has already begun and as the injuries are already starting to flow, I thought a few tips might be worthwhile considering:

Firstly, injuries to the foot and ankle are often more serious than they seem. A full 20% of people who have acute significant ankle injuries have ongoing problems.

If your patient is still experiencing significant issues about three weeks after an injury, it generally indicates that something more serious is afoot. These are the patients that need an MRI scan and a plain x-ray and review by our clinic.

I pass advice to physiotherapists who are treating patients that, if they are not succeeding with rapid progress by the two to three-week mark, there may well be issues that require investigation and treatment.
